In 2017, DTEK ESCO together with the international company TÜV SÜD launched a project to introduce the energy management system according to the international standard ISO 50001:2011 at 9 thermal power plants of DTEK Energy.

The project is aimed at optimizing internal energy consumption, creating a permanent system of energy efficiency improvements on the Plan-Implement-Check-Adjust principle, search and development of energy-efficient projects.

The following works were performed as part of the project:

  • 100 employees of TPPs, including managers, were trained in the basics of the energy management system and energy audit at the enterprise.
  • Selective audits of the energy management system at key enterprises were conducted.
  • 40 standard energy efficiency activities were identified for further implementation.
  • Recommendations for improving the energy management system were prepared.
  • Drafts of regulatory documents were prepared for integrating the energy management system with other business processes of power plants.

Currently, the developments are being implemented, the internal auditors of the energy management system and the TPPs are being prepared for certification audit for compliance with ISO 50001:2011.

Separate energy efficient projects identified in the process of energy audits are already being implemented by DTEK ESCO using the energy service mechanism.

The potential from the introduction of a complete energy management system only due to organizational measures is about 10% of energy savings for own needs, and up to 30% in the event of energy efficient investment projects, including using the energy service mechanism.
